Beta Testers Wanted
We have been hard at work the last month or so adding audio to both the Mac and iPhone versions of Mental Case. We are nearly ready, and because this is quite a major upgrade, we want to test it thoroughly.
Anyone who is interested in testing should email info@mentalfaculty.com for more information.
Sign Up for The Mental Faculty Newsletter
We've just added a sign up page for our regular email newsletter. Purchasers of Mental Case for Mac are automatically subscribed, unless they opt out during the purchase process. However, those purchasing for the iPhone are not subscribed. The sign up page has been created for iPhone users, and any others who would like to follow the goings on at the company.
Newletters are generally only sent out when we have a significant update or new product, so you needn't worry about being bombarded with spam. (At least, not from us.)
Mental Case for iPhone User Manual Available
We've just added a new manual for Mental Case on the iPhone/iPod touch. It covers most of the functionality of the app, some hidden tricks, and how you get data into it whether you are on the Mac or Windows. Check it out!
Mental Case 1.6 for Mac OS X Now Available
Mental Case 1.6 is now available for Mac users. It is a free update, and contains improvements to printing, slideshow navigation, and import/export. You can now import images via a CSV/TSV file, and there has been support added for the new Study Archive format, which can be used with the up coming Mental Case Classroom Edition for iPhone.
Mental Case featured on Apple's Web Site
Apple is featuring Mental Case for iPhone, along with a number of other apps, on a page entitled 'Apps for Students'. The page is part of the new Apps for Everything section of the web site, which Apple is using to promote applications to particular types of users. The student page is one of twelve different pages aimed to "...help you get the most out your iPhone...".
Mental Class Replaces Mental Case Lite
The Mental Faculty is proud to announce that Mental Case Classroom Edition for iPhone and iPod touch has been submitted to Apple, and should be available shortly in the iTunes App Store.
Mental Case Classroom Edition, or Mental Class for short, is designed specifically for use by a teacher and students in a classroom environment. A teacher creates notes and cases, packs them into a zip archive, and makes them available online. Students can download and import that content directly to their iPhone or iPod touch. Best of all, Mental Class will be free.
Apple Webcast Now Available for Download
The Apple Webcast that featured Mental Case is now available for download in the iTunes Store. The webcast, which was streamed live on July 22nd, is a little over an hour long. In that time, Drew McCormack, the developer of Mental Case, and Karen Thompson, an Apple Distinguished Educator, introduce the app, and show how it can be used in the class room. Plans for the future of Mental Case are also presented.
Mental Case Reviewed on TUAW
Mental Case has been reviewed by Sang Tang on the popular Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW.com) web site in an article entitled "Mental Case Reinvents the Flash Card". As you may have guessed, the review is very generous, concluding that
Mental Case provides a very nice balance of functionality, desktop and iPhone/iPod touch integration and ease-of-use that make it the leader of the pack in the flash card genre for Mac users.
The only sticking point was the lack of note ordering, a common request in the forums, and one we intend to address in version 2.0.
For those who manage to read the entire article, there is a little surprise at the end.
Mental Case for iPhone 60% Off Sale
The price of Mental Case for iPhone has been dropped temporarily from $7.99 to $2.99. If you've been using Mental Case Lite because you thought the paid version was too steep, now is a good time to jump!
