iPad specific features?

Will Mental Case on the iPad have any unique features?
Thanks,
Ben

iPad

Wow, that was fast, Ben.

We haven't had much of a chance to look at iPad, but we do hope to support it, and when we do, it will undoubtedly have iPad specific features. At least, the interface will be tailored to the iPad.
It's just a question of deciding how we should best approach it, because we also need to update the iPhone version, and finish Mental Case 2.0 for Mac. When we know more, we will probably announce something.

One of the first things I

One of the first things I thought about after hearing about the iPad, was how cool it would be using a Mental Case app on it!
I already have Mental Case for my iPhone and Mac, but I always carry my Mac with me to school and to the library just because I use Mental Case on it. I could just use my iPhone, but I prefer a bigger screen, and its much easier to type on a Mac. And hopefully on the iPad : )
Can't wait to get an iPad with Mental Case on it!

By the way: Mental Case is awesome for me as a language student! Thanks : )
I hope you won't charge to much for the iPad version. I like the price on the iPhone app!
Cheers

Edit: One thing that would be awesome with Mental Case is syncing over the internet!

iPad

Thanks for the feedback. We certainly hope to write an iPad version. In any case, the iPhone version will work on iPad until we get around to writing an iPad native app.

iPad

I agree, the first thing I thought of too was Mental Case for the iPad. I've been thinking a lot of how the iPad could best be utilised. I think the answer lies in better resolution for looking at picture flashcards, more space for text-heavy flashcards, and the iPad having more memory and probably being able to handle having many more flashcards on it - perhaps one's entire library. My suggestions so far would be:

1. Allow Mental Case for the iPad to download the entire library and sync the changes only rather than re-downloading the entire library each sync;
2. Allow cards/cases made on the iPad to have different schedules selected for them (e.g. very intense)
3. Have the 'resume lesson' feature
4. Here's one for a crazy idea - an integrated browser that allows you to search and use Flickr photos to make flash cards! (God, I can see 100s of legal/other problems with that already, but a good thought for the sake of brainstorming nonetheless).

Re: iPad

Thanks for the feedback. Lots of good ideas.

I expect the iPad version will look more like the Mac version than the iPhone version, but we have to see what works best. We have to figure out how best to approach the transition to MC 2.0, and the new platform.

Me Too

It might be obvious, but ME TOO. iPad + Mental Case would be awesomely good.
And I understand that you aren't OmniGroup with a lot of resources. But here's hoping.
I can't decide whether Version 2.0 or iPad would be more important though. That's a tough call.

iPad

We are weighing our options. Might be able to do a quick port to iPad, and a nicer version later. We'll see.

In any case, the iPhone version will already work on iPad.

Yeah, but I am waiting to

Yeah, but I am waiting to see how that looks. Are the fonts scaled up ? Do the images come across clean ? I've heard comments about blocky pixels.

Ah well. I'm going to buy an iPad for other purposes. I'll see how Mental Case works anyway.

Scaling

Agreed. The quality won't be great, but you will at least be able to use it until we get around to making an iPad native version.

unique opportunity for mental case

Dear developers

I appreciate your efforts in developing version 2.0 which I am eagerly awaiting mostly for it's advanced formatting options. I'd say the sooner you release 2.0 the better that would be.
However, I think the iPad has such great potential: above all, I think it would be the perfect device for learning purposes. And I further reckon that if a iPad-specific mental case version with syncing abilities towards mental case for macosx were available upon release it could easly establish a market leading position. Therefore, if you really mean to push mental case I would suggest you release an iPad version first. The momentum you got from it would also hugely benefit a later release of version 2.0! If you wait to long, other iPad learning apps - not nearly as good and neat as yours - would bind your potential users (once you start using a learning app and invested time in creating indivual content, it takes a lot to switch to another app).

Thanks for considering my thoughts. Best regards,
Michael

Re: iPad

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the feedback.
We do plan to bring out MC on the iPad, but it won't be ready for the initial release.
We'll keep you posted as to our plans.

Ipad version

Just wanted to inquire about the status of an iPad version of Mental Case.

iPad

We are working on it now. Hope it will be out in less than a month.

iPad version

Very good news, Drew! What can we expect? An adapation of the iPhone version or something more sophisticated? Also, do you have any updates on the progress of Mental Case 2.0?
Btw. has anyone tested the iPhone version on the iPad? How bad does the upscaling look?

Best Regards, Mikael

IPad features

We are taking the opportunity to make some improvements. Should have case collections, and much faster loading. Maybe a few other things too.

Some of the features in this new version will get into Mental Case 2.0 on the Mac.

The iphone version does work on iPad, but it is not very nice. The iPad version will be much nicer.

Zoom feature iPad

I hope, the Zoom features of iphone will also be applicable in MC for ipad/MC HD. As I work with a lot of big-sized images, it is always frustrating for me that zooming is not possible on the mac version.

Besides: great application!

Zoom

Yes, the iPad version has zoom.
