Making the iPhone the lesson "master"
Anyone have a solution for this? ......
- Due to its portability and power (thanks for the audio and image updates, Drew!!), I rely almost completely on the iPhone version of Mental Case for studying.
- However, to backup my files in case of losing my iPhone, I do sync it with Mental Case on my Mac.
- In doing so, I realize I have given up the power to control lesson schedules on my iPhone (it wants me to do it on my Mac now).
- The problem is that I have to sync my iPhone with my Mac to get my new lessons.
- With syncs taking >10 minutes, this is not practical on a regular basis for me.
I am hoping for a way I can have the iPhone control the lessons, so that I can go for a month without syncing and still have flashcards automatically populate the lesson when they're due.
Any ideas?

I've always used the Mac as the master
Hi… for what it's worth, I have alway used my Mac as the master. I fully understand the limitation of having to sync, and I will let Drew respond on that issue (I imagine there is a way to export your cards on the iPhone to the exchange site).
But, the options on the mac are so much greater in terms of managing lesson schedules that I can't imagine not syncing every day. I also can't imagine that amount of functionality would really be suitable for an iPhone app. Admittedly, my syncs are much much shorter than yours, and I'm going to guess that has something to do with pictures or other attachments (which I rarely use).
One option for The Mental Faculty might be to do something like the 2Do iPhone app which syncs to iCal on the Mac. It does require a helper app to be always running on the mac, but whenever I use 2Do on the same network as my mac, it syncs (optionally) automatically).
One option...
We are planning to make the iPhone and Mac equal partners in the long-awaited version 2.0 for Mac, but that is still a way off. We also hope to add emailing of cases in the not too distant future, so that may help the backup issue.
One thing you could do is export your notes as a Study Archive, uploading them to dropbox.com, and then download them to the iPhone. That way you have them on your Mac and iPhone, but the iPhone will schedule them, as it doesn't know they came from the Mac. The only problem is, you can't ever sync back to the Mac, so you should create new notes on the Mac, export them, and then download them.
This issue should go away with a future update. Sorry for the inconvenience.
