Mental Case for Mac OS X (v1.7b1)

This beta release is the first Mental Case version to include support for audio in notes. You can browse for and import audio files, or record directly from a microphone. Audio plays back in slideshows, can be synced with an upcoming release of Mental Case for iPhone, and can be imported and exported in the Mental Case Archive and Study Archive formats.

When testing, please try recording from the microphone, and importing various audio file types. Also look in help for sound related pages, and test out slideshows with audio in them.

Send all comments to bugs@mentalfaculty.com.

We are particularly interested in hearing from users of the Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) operating system.

You can download the beta here.

Mental Case for Mac OS X (v1.5.4b2)

This beta release includes CSV/TSV image import. It also fixes a bug which could arise if you copied notes. In particular, if you synced notes that were copied, they might not be updated when you next sync them after studying on the iPhone. You can download the beta here.

You can read about the format under CSV/TSV in the help pages. Basically, Mental Case will check in some cases if any entries point to existing image files. In particular, if there is a single column, or exactly four columns, Mental Case will look for images. Image files should either be in the same directory as the CSV/TSV file, or a path given relative to the file.

Mental Case for Mac OS X (v1.5b2)

This is the second beta release of Mental Case 1.5, and is feature complete. Only help pages need updating. You can download the beta here.

Since the first beta, a number of changes have been made:

- Preferences for slide shows have been refactored.
- It is now possible to have the slide show advance as soon as you press the right/wrong button (see preferences).
- You can now select a case collection and view the notes it contains.
- You can drag cases out of the case list to the desktop to create a mental case archive.
- You can drag archives straight into the case list to import them.
- Export slides in HTML format
- Import in tab-separated values (TSV) format
- Any extra columns in a CSV/TSV import are now all included in the content of the note
- There is an 'edit' button in the slide show toolbar. It takes you straight to the note to edit.
- When you get a note wrong, it is added at several points in the slideshow, not just at the end.
- Positions of note editing split views are now stored between restarts
- You can start slideshows in the paused state
- You can set the opacity of the background in slideshows
- Many bug fixes

We will probably make the final release within a few days. In the meantime, we want to particularly test the slideshows in this beta.
